All you needed was my tusk
Took my life instead & didn’t ask
You wanted some fancy ivory
Made us live a life of misery
We were poached by your kind
Something, you did not mind
For this mindless idiosyncrasy
No one showed us any mercy
Never mind, we still have time
To put an end to this crime
In the wild my friends roam free
On their behalf, this is our plea
We urge you to fight for our cause
And strengthen anti poaching laws
Or your children in books will read
That we fell prey to man’s greed
Rekindle your protective instinct
Or Elephants will soon be extinct
Oh my Dear Wife..
I thought you liked my sense of humor
Occasionally it ends in a blooper
In you I see no depreciation
For you, have only deep-appreciation
Our bond has no premium, lapse, liability or renewal
Your entire life, this LIC agent will be at your disposal…
‘Toe-tell, pun-ishing’ story..me shoes are full of holes
Can’t complain can I, they have served well me soles
Reduced to wearing bathroom chappals everywhere
Garnering smirks and an occasional withering stare
The scorns and un-appealing public laughter peals
At the sight of me poor, freezing, pitiful peeping heels
Forlorn I walk into shop scanning the rows of shelves
obsequious salesmen appear outta thin air like elves
I ask ‘em for flip-flops/trainers in size 6, as I kneel
“ma’am stock over” they say and turn on their heel
“Ohh Damn! Now am back to square A”, I whine
I resolve that till i am ‘shooe-d shall ‘toe’ the line
Here I sit in class shifting
uneasily, my attention drifting,
Crystallography, unfolds in front
Saturated, am still taking the brunt,
Murthy Sir extensively gesticulates
from stupor, class slowly resuscitates
Over and above the painful cacophony
I was drowning in a sea of monotony
Analogies roping in vivid images
Making me remember holy sages
Whilst he spoke of crystals twinning
My two eyes were literally swimming
Epic, was the PerumalChetty pencil
an eg for 6fold symmetry, terrible!
Abruptly he started on intensity statistic
neuron firing recklessly, drove me ballistic
waiting for him to say, as the clocks chime
"I have come to the very end of my time"
Yet, here's another day to celebrate
with innumerable goodies to taste
A cherished day may it turn out to be
For our dear lab-mate - Sneha V
.....................
Though the youngest in the troupe
She's a big-wheel of the group
Here's a moment I quite often recollect
When I fumbled with python's dialect
She swiftly rose to the occasion
tab!, solving the error in indentation
I grinned sheepishly in mortification
concurrently feeling profound appreciation
....................
Moving on to being disarmingly frank!
She is an amicable one,'n' top of the rank
Never from her end is there a moment's hesitation
To seek assistance, one feels no trepidation
An unarguable paradigm for discipline
Righteous, and for those on a PhD mission
Her acclaim has spread far and wide
Being punctilious is all in her stride
A voracious reader of all books alike, I hear
'Modern science writing'- hope brings you cheer
your birthday invokes the bard
ready with a song but no card
.............
here goes the tale of the G girl
who codes in shell and perl
So, namesakes were we two
Without a slinking sense of rue
Unbeknownst to us, were Baptised
Arg and Lys; Our world capsized
This is just one endearing anecdote
Ns lab has way too many to quote
..........
May you prosper, be strong and healthy
with our petty stipend, I can't say wealthy
Hope all yer work turn out to be ground breakers
bringing in the 'nature' and dime a dozen papers
May you not see any early signs of ageing :P
such as creaky a-kneemia or ankles aching
or sedentary issues such as gelatinosis
which though funny aren't a bed of roses
............
Now, quickly before yer patience is done with
Yennjoy every moment of yer b'day, this may fifth
A very very happy Birth Day
Our lab as one shall pray
That your success in this journey...(PhD)
May come in great many
Hope 'thoroughness' for detail
An innate strength, never go stale!
Blend 'sincerity' with 'hard work'....:P
as long as you don't go berserk
May you never get to idle
hope yer investigations go "Viral" (literally)
Will miss how Naveen, you would bully
God bless and cheers! 'kutti' pulli....
Back in the sultry month of august
In IISc lab joining was a definite must
I got annexed to the NS lab group
Kalai too then joined the troupe
She sat in the far end of the aisle
Recieving lab quirks with a smile
Rose to fame with python coding
which I found rather foreboding :(
Scripting code for kinase torsion angle
An inordinate feat, we cant wrangle
Would revel in 'normal' mode analysis
& Elastic models akin to protein in paralysis
Presentations relating mass springs
with protein dynamics and loop swings
Its my privilege to conclude on a note tad formal
and congratulate you on a work not very 'normal'
Yet again ; jack fruit aroma fills the air
Everyone, hopes to get their fair share
Feasting eyes upon it time and again
Giving into urges, without self restrain
A yummy delight, relished immensely by us
Today's second helping, a definitive plus
Very, many thanks for the wonderful treat!!
The 'Jack' of all fruits was indeed very sweet!!
Here's Bidding Farewell to our visiting professor
NS lab, revels in happiness beyond measure
Moorthy will be embarking on yet another journey
Post Doc wish granted by the research genie
Let us rewind down our winding memory lane
Anecdotes lost in the sulci-gyri of our brain
The lab meetings for many, may ring a bell
Flaws in concept and loopholes he would tell
Earnestly, pointing out corrections in approach
Garnering looks of slight momentary reproach
Now, in retrospect we can all concur with
that motivation and concern was the pith
A core building block he has always been
Of many verbal banters that I have seen
Whilst I, junior most looked on in appreciation
Knowledge streaming helped in my edification
Moorthy would smile at the most trivial humour
Even if they were someone's involuntary blooper
Hope to immortalize such memorable moments
In the above verses serving as testaments
Here, Vamsi recalls few precious anecdotes
All brilliant, competing for our popularity votes
Watching Arundhati, prompted his linguistic skill
Translation being - 'Rahul'; as if it were in Tamil!
Self proclaimed excellence at cooking cheese Maggi
Found its way into 'issue of voices, pretty catchy!
Copious amounts of enthusiasm to pursue and learn
His Parkour skills could make David Belle's gut churn
Ending on a note, definitively more polite
For a lab senior well known to be forthright
In the midst of conversation may you often drift
Into your parallel world - now, don't be miffed
All of us wish you well and the very best
To emerge triumphant in every contest
As I sat back bored
While on 'n' on Kau droned
The epic saga centring P.L.Pee
Silently screaming within, Help me!
So, I jotted these, line by line
Hoping against odds, they rhyme
questions galore came from Sir,
Kau well; had to just concur,
Surmounting onto his existing woes
while he bleakly stared at his toes
May this birthday be your best ever
full of light and laughter
Double your treasury
halve the calorie(s)
fortune come your way
No further ado or delay
like you sporting your smiley
always chirpy and bubbly
pray you get french holidays 😉
And to riotous fun!, I say...
Congratulations on crossing the ‘line’
With a performance very fine
Shuffling projects like a deck of cards
Un-folding the narrative in parts
Wish you very well, in adventures ahead
Climb hills, metaphorically instead
Lies ahead a journey of a thousand miles
happiness, sunshine and smiles.
Why are you doing this to yourself?
Enduring pain engulfing the self
Against the odds why try to fit in
Being alone is it such a sin
Who after all are these people
That prick you like a needle
When alone you are in their midst
And on your own feel blissed
Trying with your might to feel inclusive
Instead turning more reclusive
To them your choice in the matter
Is like virtues to a philander
So why then do you tie yourself in knots
These bonds are more brittle than pots
For when they converse in your presence
Could as well be in your absence
When you drag behind the group slower
Not even one looks over the shoulder
So Why are you doing this to yourself?
Unburden the load and service thyself
Because, tomorrow when many years roll by
They may not even turn to say hi
Remember smiling at your painting(s)
Marveling at the vibrance, gaping
Canvases brightened with many colors
How you make the time, one wonders
Surreal was the painting, river in the night
The shimmering tree tops in moonlight
The meandering river, it's winding course
Captured gracefully and so not by force
The expression and strokes, as if it were
The work of a seasoned artist, not amateur
Thank you, this will be a priceless possession
Means a lot! something I'd like to mention:-)
The rising and falling waves in the sea that edge closer
Creeping up gently on us as the tide gets higher
The Voiceless murmurs of nature we would together hear
Silently gaze at the red ball in the horizon that seemed so near
Often arrested by the beauty of the setting sun's rays
Promises of hope, a fresh start to the passing days
These little moments that we together would stumble on
Will be the ones that remain when far you are gone
Treasured are these woven instances, etched in our memory
That I will smile at once in a while when lost in reverie
The timelessness of our conversations that forever stretched
or the verbal dialogues we had on issues so far fetched
These have made me chuckle every once in a while
or when by the lake alone, mulled over to reconcile
We share an unusual bond which is different from the rest
Jest adore, our journey is of love and companionship at its best
There was a time I could not easily tell
The difference between C, python and shell
While attempting to script would often holler
2-line codes and I felt like a Rhodes scholar
Finding a solution from a ‘No solution’ method
Bridging the sequence gap, more fun than expected
as my PhD is ‘bout to finish, hope my complex lexicon
Consists of simple plain words very easy to catch on
Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of lab-103
‘NS lab’ - ‘No Solution’ without computation, we agree
